Motion:

“That ICPA Qld lobbies the Department of Education (DoE), Department of Transport and TransLink to recognise and allow Kindergarten children on buses that service schools offering State Delivered Kindergarten (SDK).”

Explanation:

Kindergarten children are currently not recognised on their local bus routes and are therefore not allocated a seat. In our area, some families may have primary aged children on a rural bus run yet still must travel to school themselves to transport their child in Kindy. It is currently at the discretion of the bus driver to accept a kindergarten child.

For small bus runs, who depend on numbers to remain functioning, it is vital that the kindy children are recognised and counted. Appropriate safety measures such as designated seating and supervision protocols will be maintained to meet the specific needs of kindergarten-aged children. This will help schools maintain the funding required to ensure longevity of the bus run and thus help keep the kids attending our local schools.
